31 Day Challenge- Proverbs Chapter 25

I am just loving spending time in the Word!  Chapter 25 is full of goodies.

V.17 “Don't visit your neighbours too often, or you will wear out your welcome.”

That verse made me laugh.  I wrote about my neighbours in one of my previous Proverbs posts.  We get along really well with our neighbours.  I will have to ask them if we are wearing out our welcome.J  Before we moved into our neighbourhood we prayed for the relationships that we would have with our neighbours.  Thanks to our oldest daughter we have built relationships; she was always the one that would wander into neighbours yards and just start chatting.  As parents we would be chasing after her and inadvertently end up chatting with the neighbours.  We have thanked her several times for the friends that we have.

V.19 “Putting confidence in an unreliable person is like chewing with a toothache or walking on a broken foot.”

How true is that verse! I have people in my life who are not the most reliable but I continue to have hope for them that maybe next time they will come through for me.  And then it doesn’t happen; again.  It honestly does feel like walking with a broken foot.  I have had to teach myself to keep asking these friends for help but if they don’t come through, not to be upset and take it personally.  I would always think that I had done something wrong and that is why they weren’t calling or not helping me with something they said that they would help with.  Making that realization has taken a lot of stress off of my shoulders.  I am responsible for me and my actions--not the whole world.

V.26- “If the godly compromise with the wicked, it is like polluting a fountain or muddying a spring.”

How true! How true!  It tells us in scripture that we are supposed to be in the world and not of the world.  We can’t compromise.  Too often we think that we are strong enough in character to mingle with the wicked.  It takes a very strong person to be able to do that.  I know that I have found myself getting drawn into that and having to put on the brakes and get back on the right track.  I like the image that “polluting a fountain” gives.  If you put in just a tiny amount of pollution into a fountain- what happens?  It spreads everywhere.  It can’t stop and you can take it back once you have done it.  Interesting thought.  I love scripture!

  1. well I guess I just done gave up..i dont ask people who dont come through...I ask the reliables and mostly just the ones that will tell me no if they need to ...I dont want to himhaw and say yes and later say no...just be real up front "no i cant" or "yes i can!!" and then do that!! :0) great post!! btw neighbors are nice but when they call the police for "mysterious smoke' when the grill is going, you have to wonder

  2. I struggle with verse 26...I'm good at preaching it to my teenager but recently I've found myself trying a little too hard to be "normal" around some non-christians who've adopted me as their walking partner and I've compromised my relationship with the Lord. I don't want to come across as wierd but I also don't want to them to think I'm just like them! (of the world) ???

It was explained to me once like this...If I were making a batch of yummy, rich, chewy, chocolatey fudge brownies and added just a wee bit of dog poop, that would be fine, wouldn't it? Um...NOPE!! Same kind of thing as the fountain! A good reminder.

    Have a great weekend!

I love to hear your thoughts, please feel free to share with me.
