31 Day Challenge, Proverbs Chapter One

Proverbs 1:2-7  “The purpose of these proverbs is to teach people wisdom and discipline, and to help them understand wise sayings. Through these proverbs, people will receive instruction in discipline, good conduct, and doing what is right, just, and fair. These proverbs will make the simpleminded clever. They will give knowledge and purpose to young people. Let those who are wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. And let those who understand receive guidance by exploring the depth of meaning in these proverbs, parables, wise sayings, and riddles. Fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Only fools despise wisdom and discipline.”

This is sounding like the perfect book for me to be reading right now.  Wisdom is something that I definitely need.  With all of the choices life throws at you, having wisdom on my side is a must.  Because I do not want to be a fool.

Riddles?- I don’t remember any riddles in Proverbs, I am going to have to keep my eyes open for that.

V.8b “Don’t neglect your Mother’s teaching.”  That makes me wonder if I am being a good teacher to my daughters.  The Bible instructs them to not neglect my teaching.  That holds me in a very high expectations that what I am teaching them is correct.  Good thing I am studying about wisdom this month!

V. 20-33- Interesting how they refer to wisdom as a woman who is trying to get people’s attention, then after she feels rejected she states, v.31 “That is why they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way.  They must experience the full terror of the path they have chosen.”

I have been on that path, have you?  The path that I chose, when I knew there was another one available.  Then in V.33 “But all who listen to me will live in peace and safety, unafraid of harm.”  AMEN.  It’s when I read verses like that, that I just want to hug my Bible.  There is no need to feel anxious or afraid.  Oh, I am so excited about this month!

I can’t wait for tomorrow’s chapter!

  1. The verses on parenting really struck me today too...but not in the sense as me, the parent, so much as being so thankful for my parents, and the things that they've taught me, and continue to teach me, and the part about how it clothes you with grace....I'm just really grateful for my parents' influence in my life! Looking forward to this month too, Carolyn! :)
